The Whitecourt Wolverines added a ninth win to their streak in Olds on Tuesday, Nov. 5, after defeating the Grizzlys 5-2.
Junshi Hideshima got the Grizzlys out to an early lead with his sixth goal of the season, scored at 5:48. Mitchell Patrick was credited with the assist on that goal.
Spencer Claerhout tied the game for the Wolverines at 19:31 with an assist from Braden Keeble. That was Claerhout’s second goal of the season.
At the end of the first period, the Whitecourt Wolverines had outshot the Olds Grizzly’s 15-7 but the game was tied 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
Whitecourt’s Ethan Short scored the only goal of the second period at 3:47 on the power play. Short’s seventh goal of the season was assisted by Ewan McPherson and Marcello Giorgi.
At the end of the second period, the Whitecourt Wolverines outshot the Olds Grizzlys 14-4 and took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
Jonathan Doucette tied the game for the Grizzlys just 1:30 into the third period. Doucette’s fourth goal of the season was assisted by Antonio Bevacqua.
Marcello Giorgi re-established the Wolverines’ lead at 10:34 with his fifth goal of the season, assisted by Ethan Short and Dwayne Jean Jr.
Giorgi then scored his second goal of the night and sixth of the season on an empty net at 17:09 with an assist from Spencer Claerhout.
Joey Vetrano scored the final goal of the game at 18:38 to secure the Wolverines’ 5-2 victory. That was Vetrano’s fifth goal of the season and assisted by Jalen Bianchet.
At the end of the third period, the Olds Grizzlys had outshot the Whitecourt Wolverines 19-7, but shots on goal finished 36-30 in favour of Whitecourt.
Olds Grizzlys goaltender Ben Dardis made 31 saves on 34 shots.
Whitecourt Wolverines goaltender Zac Onyskiw made 28 saves on 30 shots in support of the Wolverines’ 5-2 victory.

With this win, the Whitecourt Wolverines now have a record of 13-3-0-1, for a total of 27 points which puts them in second place in both the Northern Division and the overall league standings.
The Wolverines next game is Wednesday, Nov. 6, as they continue a southern Alberta road trip with a match against the Drumheller Dragons.
