Mayor Jabush submitted a resolution to be discussed at the convention that focuses on municipalities’ reliance on Regional Economic Development Alliances (REDAs) in order to thrive. This resolution advocates to the Minister of Jobs, Economy and Trade as well as the Government of Alberta to implement provisions for the continuous funding of the nine REDAs in Alberta.
These provisions would include a budget of $225,000 per year, consisting of $125,000 per year in operational funding and $100,000 per year in project funding.
The resolution also mandates that Alberta Municipalities advocate for a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Alberta and the current REDA Chairs to develop a clear structure for a stable, long-term, collaborative approach to funding.
