Westlock RCMP have arrested an individual in connection to a stabbing attack on Friday, Aug. 23.
Mounties say they received a report of a stabbing at a residence located just off Highway 43 near Township Road 603 in Westlock County at around 12:45 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
Upon arrival, police say they found one individual suffering from stab wounds that would require medical assistance. Officials say the victim’s injuries are not life-threatening and they are expected to make a full recovery.
Mounties say the suspect fled into a wooded area in Westlock County after the stabbing. Officers from Barrhead and Morinville RCMP as well as Police Dog Services and the Emergency Response Team were called in to assist with the search. Police also note that communications between the RCMP Real Time Operations Centre and AEMA Wireless Notification Coordinator lead to messages being released on the non-intrusive broadcast server for Police Initiated Public Alerts (PIPA).
“Public safety is a shared responsibility in these moments of crisis,” Says Cpl. Patrick Lambert. “The Westlock RCMP and Eastern Alberta District appreciate the public response to PIPA messages, dedication and support towards a safe community.”
Officials say the suspect was located and arrested without incident shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Aug. 23, however, criminal charges against the accused have not yet been sworn before the Alberta Court of Justice.
Updates will be provided should they become available.
