A 60-year-old Fox Creek resident is recovering in hospital following a motorcycle accident on Highway 43 on Saturday, Aug. 3.
According to Sargent Andrew Brand, detachment commander of the Fox Creek RCMP detachment, at approximately 12:30 p.m. a motorcyclist was travelling on Highway 43 with a group of riders that were known to him.
The driver reportedly lost control of his motorcycle and drove into the ditch resulting in injuries that required immediate medical assistance. Fox Creek Fire and Rescue and STARS Air Ambulance were able to respond to the area quickly and officials closed a section of Highway 43 in order for STARS to land and the patient to be loaded. Brand says the patient was then transferred to Edmonton for further medical assistance. Officials say the 60-year-old driver is continuing to recover in hospital.
Mounties did close a section of Highway 43 for a brief period due to the seriousness of the accident but were able to re-open one lane a couple of hours later and fully re-open the highway later that afternoon.
Sgt. Brand commended Fox Creek Fire and Rescue for their quick response.
“We would like to highlight the great work done by Fox Creek Fire and Rescue on this event. They are integral partners in what we do in ensuring road safety and everything out there, they’re fantastic.”
