Due to heavy rainfall across northern Alberta, a high streamflow advisory has been put in place for the Athabasca River, between the Town of Whitecourt and the confluence of the Pembina River.
With forecasters calling for 70mm to 100mm of rain between Wednesday, July 24 and Saturday, July 27, officials say there is a possibility the water level of the Athabasca River could rise by as much as two-metres. Experts say while no widespread flooding is expected, low-lying areas adjacent to the river may be impacted.
Residents are being advised to avoid this section of the river until water levels return to normal.
