Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Woodlands County, including the Town of Whitecourt and the Hamlet of Blue Ridge effective as of 11:05 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16.
Officials with ECCC say conditions on Tuesday afternoon will be favourable for the development of systems that have the potential to turn into severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
Residents are being advised to seek shelter immediately if they find themselves outside when threatening weather approaches.
Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
