The Whitecourt & District Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Carnival in downtown Whitecourt, May 3 through 5.
Alyssia Calliou, executive director with the Chamber, says this annual Carnival has been coming to Whitecourt for over three decades.
“It was there when I was a kid so it’s got to be close to 30 years now, maybe more.”
Officials with the Chamber say the Carnival will be run by Wild Rose Shows and will include rides such as the Expo-wheel, Dragon Coaster, Drop Zone and many others. Organizers say there will also be a variety of games available including High Striker, Long Range Hoop Shoot and the Ring Toss.
Calliou says businesses located downtown get involved in the Carnival as well.
“They usually open, they do sidewalk sales, they offer specials downtown while the Carnival is going.”
All-day passes are available for purchase at the Whitecourt & District Chamber of Commerce office building (4907 52 Avenue) for $35.00 until Thursday, May 2, and will be $40.00 during the Carnival.
Organizers say tickets can also be purchased for individual days, and that rides require 4-9 tickets each:
- Orange Single tickets: $1.00
- Red Book (20 Tickets) $20.00
- Blue Book (40 Tickets) $40.00
- Green Book (60 Tickets) $55.00
More information regarding the Carnival can be found on the Wild Rose Shows website.
To allow for set-up and take-down of the Carnival, officials with the Town of Whitecourt have approved the following road closures:
- 49 Street from 50 Avenue to 52 Avenue
- Closed 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 30 – 12 noon on Monday, May 5.
- 52 Avenue from 49 Street to 50 Street:
- Closed from 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 – 12 noon on Monday, May 5.
Town officials say barricades and signage will be posted in these areas, and motorists are being asked to use alternate routes from April 30 through May 5.
Officials with Whitecourt Public Transit note that Bus Stop #6 (located across from Central School at 49 Street and 52 Avenue) will be closed from May 1 to May 5. However, temporary bus stop #6A will be created at the corner of 48 Street and 52 Avenue with signs marking the stop.
Calliou also took a moment to express gratitude to the businesses in Whitecourt that make events like this possible.
“Thank you to all the downtown businesses for continuing to support us in bringing these events downtown.”
