According to officials with Alberta Wildfire, due to current and forecasted weather conditions, a Fire Restriction has been issued for the Town of Edson, as well as the Edson Forest Area, effective as of Wednesday, April 24.
Under this restriction, officials say existing fire permits are restricted, suspended or cancelled and no new fire permits will be issued.
Officials note that the following burning appliances are still allowed for use with caution:
- Safe wood campfires within fire rings (permitted and approved) are allowed within the Town of Edson.
- Use of spark arrestors is highly recommended.
- Residents are reminded to never leave a fire unattended and ensure it’s completely extinguished before leaving it.
- CSA approved or ULC certified gas or propane barbeques used for cooking,
- CSA approved or ULC certified Wood Pellet Smokers,
- Propane and natural gas fire pits,
- Catalytic or infrared-style heaters,
- Electric or propane meat smokers.
Officials with Alberta Wildfire say this fire restriction will stay in place until further notice and will be reviewed as conditions improve or worsen.
