According to officials with the Town of Barrhead, a water main has broken on 50 Avenue, between 54 and 55 Streets west of the downtown area.
Officials say access to this area was closed at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, and will remain closed until at least 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28 with a longer closure possible. Crews say excavation will commence on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
Officials say water service is affected in the surrounding areas and as a result, brown water may be coming through pipes due to the rupture of the main stirring up sediment. Officials say to run water until it becomes clear and that water remains safe to consume.
