Officials with the Town of Edson say the Extreme Cold Emergency Warming Centre Protocol was activated on Sunday, Jan, 7, and will remain active until Friday, Jan. 12, due to the severe weather conditions anticipated for the rest of the week.
As per the protocol, when the temperature reaches -25 degrees Celsius, including wind chill, the necessary measures are implemented by the Town of Edson to ensure the safety and well-being of Edson’s vulnerable population.
Officials say the generators will be activated in advance to ensure the operational readiness of the Warming Centre, which vulnerable citizens can access from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., providing a safe and warm space during these extreme weather conditions.
The Warming Centre is located at 54 Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue, across from the Provincial Building.
