A Special Weather Statement is in effect for Whitecourt-Edson-Fox Creek-Swan Hills areas, as well as Spruce Grove-Morinville-Mayerthorpe-Evansburg areas.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the first snowfall of the season is underway across central Alberta. By this evening, total amounts are expected to range from 2 to 5 cm.
Officials say snowfall accumulations will vary as some of the snow will melt on contact with the relatively warm ground.
Drivers are reminded to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ABstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ABStorm.
