A new agency in Whitecourt hopes to attract newcomers to Whitecourt and surrounding area.
On Thursday, Mayor Tom Pickard, along with representatives of the Whitecourt Chamber of Commerce, helped Toronto-based Growing Globe Immigration (GGI) open its new offices (4907 52 Avenue).
Sargun Singh, GGI Director, says his organization hopes to enhance three things for Whitecourt: recruitment, immigration and investment.
He sees Whitecourt as a place people should want to move to.
“When we visited Whitecourt for the first time, we saw that there are many opportunities and a lack of people. There is availability of jobs but people do not stick here. So we saw that there were potential for businesses because it is a growing community,” Singh says.
“It’s close to Edmonton, so that gives it a bigger picture for people to come, and the Alberta government made many good programs for the rural areas so we are just working towards that.”
Mayor Pickard believes GGI is a vital addition for the town.
“Growing Globe Immigration specializes in bringing people into communities, so it just shows the growth of Whitecourt. We currently have 43 people that have moved to Whitecourt and are staying here, another 110 registered are interested in coming,” says Pickard.
“This group out of Toronto sees Whitecourt as a great region to expand to and we are so happy to have them here in Whitecourt.”
