Premier Danielle Smith named eight new parliamentary secretaries recently, and one of the eight named was MLA for Lac St. Anne- Parkland, Shane Getson.
Under Smith’s new parliamentary secretaries, Getson was named Parliamentary Secretary for Economic Corridor Development, reporting to the Minister of Intergovernmental Relations.
“I am really appreciative of it,” comments Getson. “Basically with the first election I won, and that was my main stay, was trying to work on economic corridors. So to see it going from kind of an idea to being a part of the Minister and Economic Corridors to being named parliamentary secretary, I was really excited about it.”
Provincial officials say Alberta’s Cabinet is made up of talented and experienced leaders who will work to deliver on the priorities of Albertans. Parliamentary Secretaries are said to play an important role in assisting Ministers in that work and will help achieve the government’s commitments by working with Albertans and partner organizations and businesses.
Getson says working on the economic corridors is what will be among his biggest priorities moving forward.
“So that helps garner access to both trade jurisdictions and regions, so we start looking a little bit bigger than our own backyard. I think Alberta has a pivotal role to play in the next 20-30 years of North American security, energy, communications, its absolutely going to be massive for us.
“Other priorities locally are obviously getting the economics under control when it comes to inflation,” adds Getson. “Livability and affordability is just so big right now, so we have to push on that. Health Care is going to be one of those key elements that we need to make sure they are there.”
