École St. Anne Catholic School will open in Whitecourt this September, but some parents had the opportunity to tour it earlier this week.
“This school will go from junior kindergarten to grade three,” comments Ashley Floyd, school principal. “We have English and French immersion programming offered here and it’s specifically designed for small children. We have designed it so the kids can dream, play and imagine everyday.”
The concept of the school is quite flexible, Floyd adds.
“There are learning places all over the building, there are garage doors that can open and close as needed so our kids can be regrouped how they need for what their specific learning styles are,” she says. “If you are in grade two and you need some enrichment, we can make sure we have flexible learning spaces where you can do that. Same if you are struggling a little bit, we are able to provide specific strategies throughout the school and it is very flexible.”
Floyd continues, saying that the reconfiguration of the school will work really well, and that the school is designed to be play-based.
She also notes that having this school open will mean there is a K-3 option for Living Waters Catholic School Division in Whitecourt, in addition to the existing junior and senior high schools.
The school, which has been under construction for two years, is expecting approximately 350-400 kids in the fall, with a max capacity of 558.
