Residents in Woodlands County may see smoke coming from the south over the coming days.
County officials say the smoke is caused by the EWF035 – Deep Creek Complex wildfire in Yellowhead County. The fire is said to be consuming vegetation in unburned areas in the interior of the fire. Alberta Wildfire firefighters continue to work on extinguishing hotspots in the area.
As hot temperatures and windy conditions continue, County officials say fire activity increases and smoke will be more visible. Fire behaviour typically increases during “peak burning periods” which is normally mid-afternoon when temperatures are hottest and relative humidity drops, officials point out.
Residents are asked to stay away from areas recently affected by wildfire as they may have unseen hazards.
