The Whitecourt Wolverines were in Grande Prairie Wednesday night for a possible sweep of their first round playoff series.
And sweep they did as they would take the series after a dominate 4-1 win over the Grande Prairie Storm.
Whitecourt would score first, 14:41 into the first period as Colby Browne would get his league leading fifth playoff goal, thanks to assists from Braden Keeble and Tanner Komzak on the power play to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.
The Wolverines would double their lead at the 7:49 mark of the second period as Caleb MacDonald would find Michael Lovsin for his second of the post season to make it 2-0 Whitecourt.
The Wolverines would then complete the trifecta of goals, 8:08 into the third period as Spencer Rheaume would find Aiden Long for his first of the playoffs to give the Wolverines a three goal lead. The Storm would then get one of their own as Ty Toews would get his fourth of the playoffs with Alex Atwill picking up the assist to make it a 3-1 hockey game. However, The Wolverines would leave no doubt as to who would win the game as Chase Broda would find Dylan Leslie for the empty net goal to seal the 4-1 victory for the Wolverines.
Shots in the game were 35-31 in favour of the Storm.
With the win, the Wolverines now wait for their second round matchup, which will be played on Mar.24.
