Edson town council has taken steps to simplify the different types of business licenses in the community.
Last week, council reviewed the Business License Bylaw originally drafted in 2006.
The review was an effort to align the bylaw with other Town bylaws and statutes, provide clarity around enforcement and to simplify the types of business licenses with corresponding fees and rates.
Kundiso Nyambirai , Economic Development Officer for the Town of Edson says this is an update to the old bylaw.
“So this is a full scale update of that bylaw, we took a look at things we’ve done in the past and things we need to change, as well as looking at what other regions are doing. So in doing that, we have made some changes such as increasing our fees for the Town. That is one aspect that we have looked at when we looked at regional comparison and seen our fees were much lower than what the other regions were doing. Apart from that, we have introduced some new business types, such as business license or temporary business license.”
