In an effort to enhance local firefighting efforts, Woodlands County has approved the purchase of a new fire engine for the Fort Assiniboine Fire Department.
Rocky Mountain Phoenix quoted the fire engine at a value of $706,129 with confirmation on pricing expected in September. One of the main topics of conversation brought up about the engine was longevity.
Chief Administrative Officer Gordon Frank states the engine can last 20 to 25 years.
“Yes they can go beyond their life expectancy, however, pumps have to be certified every year and as long as that pump is certified, they can.”
Another topic of conversation was with the parts prices required to maintain the engine.
Frank says those prices seem to be stabilizing.
“Depending on what you read and what you listen to, inflation seems to be stabilizing, parts are starting to flow.”
Woodlands County has budgeted $200,000 for a down payment on the vehicle with the remaining funds forming part of the 2023 capital budget and to be paid upon delivery of the unit which is expected in 2024. The County is also awaiting confirmation for a chassis pricing, however, it was approximated at $126,830.
