After a small bump in the road these last couple of years due to COVID-19, the Whitecourt Woodlands Rodeo is finally able to have a normal event.
Malcom Heaven, President of the Whitecourt District Agriculture Society, stated “We are just trying to get back into it after the pandemic here. We had one mini kind of a rodeo last year so we are trying to get back into the regular grind of things.”
Heaven says the rodeo is an important event for the community and local economy.
“It brings lots of money into the town is one big thing that happens with it, but its just a tradition that we’ve had here for quite a number of years. I think in the last 30 years we’ve missed the rodeo one year and that was when we switched over from the town out to the agriculture society back in 2012.”
Heaven notes a number of headliners for this year’s events.
“We’ve got the chuckwagons and the chariots back again too at the all Canadian Pro Chuckwagons, and people love those chuckwagon races so that’s a couple of the big events that happen at the rodeo.”
Action starts Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. with Beef on a Bun during the cowboy’s supper, followed by chuckwagons at 6:00 p.m.
