Woodlands County is doing some sprucing up at the Whitecourt Airport.
At the County’s Jan. 19 meeting, council awarded a contract for brush pile disposal to MacRitchie Forestry Services.
With the County having recently conducted some logging operations on the airport lands, some brush piles were left behind that needed to be disposed of. The County put out a request for proposal, and MacRitchie won the contract with a bid of $66,700.
Under MacRitchie’s proposal, the piles would be burned over a period of seven to 14 days, depending on weather conditions to minimize the amount of smoke.
In order to help fund the sale, the County is selling some of the timber on the unfenced airport lands. Granger Labor Services was awarded the contract for the timber sale. Grander will be logging 96 hectares of the airport’s unfenced lands.
