Community support is vital to the success of any local business and the continued viability of the town where it resides. Just ask Karen Hamelin, owner of Crockett Automotive Repair, your Bumper-to-Bumper in Mayerthorpe. Says Karen, there are many reasons to support the community.
“Our children will grow up here. Our friends and customers live and work here.” Hamelin says she sees friends and customers every day, working hard to provide for their families. “We expect them to support us, so we should also support them.” And community involvement is a great way to do it!
More than just a Bumper to Bumper, Hamelin and her team try hard to provide customers with what they need when they need it, so they don’t need to leave town. But Hamelin is the first to admit that business success is more than just having well-stocked shelves.
“Our most important product,” says Hamelin, “and the one we’re most proud of is our customer service and customer satisfaction.”
Notes Hamelin, the top priority has always been to honour the history of the building, its legends, and its story. “Those of old-time community support – a hub of coffee and oil and help.”
The Hamelin’s purchased the existing Mayerthorpe business in 2016. Karen had a lengthy background in automotive in the Whitecourt area. When the business became available, she and her husband, Allen thought it would be a great investment and a good opportunity to grow some roots in the community.
Since the Hamelin’s moved to Mayerthorpe, they have been involved in community support in a variety of ways.
“We shop locally every day,” says Karen. “That’s the single most important thing anyone can do for their community.” But the Hamelin’s also contribute by volunteering and donating to events and non-profits. This year, the Hamelin’s and Bumper to Bumper organized and volunteered for the Mayerthorpe Canada Day events. Also, were a major sponsor at Summerfest in Sangudo. In addition, the Hamelin’s sponsor a race car owned and raced by a local family. And this is only a partial list of their involvement.
Recently, the Bumper-to-Bumper team was involved in a fun competition between local businesses. Sign Wars saw humorous, pun-filled signs popping up in business windows across the town.
“We’ve always gotten along as businesses with friendly competitions,” says Hamelin, “and this is definitely increasing that!” The community soon responded, and many positive comments were garnered on social media.
“Just to make them smile,” says Hamelin. “Why not?”
Committed to the community – proud to be part of the local business landscape. That’s Crockett Automotive Repair – your Bumper to Bumper in Mayerthorpe. A local business that’s making a difference.
