A recent shooting in Edson has officially been deemed a homicide.
Edson RCMP report that, on Nov. 4, 2021 at 5:27 p.m., they responded to a report of a shooting at a business on 50 Street in Edson.
According to RCMP, an unknown male suspect entered a business with a firearm and attempted to rob the business. During the interaction, the suspect discharged their firearm and injured an employee
The suspect, who was unsuccessful in the robbery, fled the business, leaving the firearm behind. RCMP say the suspect departed in a vehicle, but the vehicle was found a short distance away unoccupied.
Edson RCMP called in the RCMP Police Dog Services and the Forensic Identification Section to assist.
RCMP share that the employee who was injured was an adult male. His injuries were as a result of the firearm being discharged. The male was taken to hospital, but died from his injuries.
Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation.
Major Crimes adds that an autopsy was carried out on Nov. 9 by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The manner of death has officially been deemed a homicide.
Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit and the Edson RCMP continue to investigate. They will provide an update, however, no additional details can be released at this time.
