Woodlands County is taking steps to bring the organization in line with the FireSmart program.
The County is applying for a $60,000 grant to help with the program.
Officials say the money will be used to hire a consultant in 2022. The consultant is expected to review the County’s current fire prevention plans, and highlight which regions could benefit from the FireSmart program. With that information, the County will apply for another grant to implement the plan in 2023.
Councilor Dave Kluin was in favour of the plan, saying that planning for wildfires isn’t rocket science when you see what’s happening in BC.
FireSmart is a national program to help communities build up their defenses against wildfires.
