An infrastructure project in Woodlands County is giving one councilor second thoughts about how the County pays its engineers.
Woodlands County recently awarded a contract to Westcore Contracting LTD. The contract is for the Horne Road and Subdivision drainage project, which aims to improve drainage on six quarters of land and help maintain the quality of roads in the area. The cost of the project was $199,885 plus taxes, which is all being covered by grants.
During debate, Councillor Ron Govenlock wanted to have extra assurances to make sure engineering projects get completed.
He wanted to know that, for engineering contractors, if it’d be possible to hold back a portion of the pay to ensure that project expectations are met.
Woodlands County already has a similar policy in place for construction contractors.
Administration said it is possible to put such measures in place for engineering contractors, but the contractors need to know ahead of time. Woodlands County mayor John Burrows said he’d want more discussion on it at a later date.
