At their regular meeting on Wednesday, May 18, Edson town council approved a $5,000 contribution to the Community Futures West Yellowhead (CFWY) SMARTstart program to be funded from the town’s unrestricted surplus.
The SMARTstart program is a training and mentorship program for entrepreneurs with new or existing businesses that have been in operation for less than 5-years.

With some new information provided, town council passed a motion to adopt the amended Management and Professional Staff Compensation Policy as presented.
Officials say the policy cleans up the salary grid, applies cost of living adjustments to the grid rather than individual salaries, includes a market review every four years (previously done every two years), and clarifies the Supplemental Professional Qualification terms and Termination Notice procedures.
The policy also carries the organizational philosophy of aiming for a percentile target (50th) for compensation. This target is not a mandate, but a goal that is subject to budgetary realities, as established by council.
