A man from Sangudo has been charged with second-degree murder following an assault at a residence in the hamlet last week.
At 9:39 p.m. on December 17, Mayerthorpe RCMP received a call of a disturbance and an assault in progress at a residence located in the area of 49 Street and 51 Avenue in Sangudo.
RCMP attended the location and a 34-year-old man was taken into custody at the residence.
A resident of the home, James Kenneth Gantz, 65, was given first aid by Emergency Medical Services but died from his injuries at the scene.
The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, and on December 18, police charged Clayton Jackie Desjarlais with second-degree murder and failure to comply with release conditions.
Following a judicial interim release hearing, Desjarlais was remanded into custody to speak to bail and is scheduled to attend Mayerthorpe Provincial Court on January 14, 2021.
An autopsy is scheduled at the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner the week of December 21, 2020.
