Blue Ridge Water Treatment Plant
Upgrades will soon be done at the Blue Ridge Water Treatment Plant.
Woodlands County Council last week awarded a tender contract to Nova Mechanical Systems Inc. to complete upgrades at the water plant.
County Mayor John Burrows says the upgrades will address ongoing water colour issues that have impacted residents in the hamlet for years.
Council had $110,000 for the upgrades included in the 2020 Budget to address the water colour issues. However, during preparation for the tender, a number of additional items were identified that needed upgrading, such as galvanized piping, repairing the filter tanks, installation of backflow preventer, modification to the truck fill, secondary containment, and the addition of valves.
Council approved the additional required funds of $143,145 for the upgrades to come from capital reserves within the 2020 budget. Administration said approving the repairs now will address all the issues to bring the plant into compliance for the future and ensure the life cycle of the plant is extended.
The total cost for the tendered upgrades and the engineering supervision comes to $253,145. It is anticipated that work will be completed in the winter months.
